walking

This area is full of walking routes with all levels avail. If you stay at one of the riverside properties you could start off with the walk to Miravet on the nature trail that runs straight past the houses, the track follows the river upstream  and will take you around 3hrs each way. When you get to Miravet you could take the uphill climb to visit the Castel or have lunch in the square overlooking the river or both before your return journey. Or why not try the Dry river bed walk which starts right in the village and will take you through some spectacular mountain terrain, with elevated views to start then deep crevices within the mountain range. This is just 2 of many walking routes in this area. The best time to go walking in this area is between Oct and April.

places to see

riverboat and caves

You can buy a ticket to combine the Benifallet boat trip with a tour around our very own caves. The boat trip takes you on a short trip upstream showing you some of the strange rock formations and beauty of the mountains from a different aspect. The trip takes approx 45mins – 1hr. Then you need to take a short drive up the mountains or a brisk walk if you have the energy (only for the strong hearted) for a tour of our small but beautiful caves. There is a café/bar when you reach the caves so you don’t need to take a pack lunch, as refreshments are available. If you decide you want to lunch in the breath taking surroundings there is a menu available, although very basic food of pizza or filled baguettes. The scenery is worth the stay. Please note that if you would prefer, you can buy separate tickets for both the River boat and the caves.

miravet castle

You must take a camera for this trip. To get to Miravet you need to take a short (10 min) drive to the Miravet car ferry, which is one of the very few river current, operated ferries. Once you reach the other side you can park your car up in the square and take a 15 minute walk through the village and up the mountains (not for the faint hearted) or you could take a 2 min drive up the mountain road to the castle, following the signs. The castle is quite small so will not take long to see all there is too offer, but the history is interesting and the views that can be seen from the top of the castle are breath taking and worthy of a visit. After you have seen the spectacular views of and from the castle, a visit to the river side square is an absolute must either for lunch or a short drink stop and tapas before returning to your day either back via the river crossing or you could drive through the countryside route passing through El Pinnell our neighbouring village.
